London Airports

London is the largest city in Europe and is served by five airports:

Heathrow and Gatwick are the two principal long-haul hubs
Stansted and Luton handle mainly low-cost European and package holiday flights
London City Airport serves UK domestic and western Europe short-haul flights

Heathrow (LHR), about 20 miles west of central London, is the largest of the five. Be prepared for crowds, lines and in many cases, great restaurants and shopping.

To get from Heathrow to central London:

Gatwick (LGW) is the second busiest London airport, located 28 miles south of the center of the city, near Crawley in Surrey.

To get from Gatwick to central London:

Stansted (STN) is London’s third busiest airport, and though it has only one runway, serves more European destinations than any other airport in the world. Located 35 miles east of central London.

To get from Stansted to central London:

Luton (LTN) is located approximately 30 miles to the north of London. Luton Airport Parkway train station is close to the airport and a regular shuttle bus connects the two.

London City (LCY) The only airport actually in London, LCY is the UK’s leading business airport, serving over 30 destinations across the UK and Europe and connections to the rest of the world through major European hubs.

To get from London City to central London:

Docklands Light Railway
There is no bus or coach service to LCY
