Smart Hyde Park View Hostel

SHPV entrancePart of the Smart Backpackers chain, Smart Hyde Park View is located in the bustling area of Bayswater, just a few blocks from Hyde Park itself. Don’t be confused by the name on the building – “Craven Gardens Hotel” – as this is in fact the Smart Hyde Park View.

This London hostel has around 300 beds, and all rooms are en-suite. There’s a large common room complete with jukebox and pool table, and the lobby area features a 24-hour bar, but beyond a microwave and a tea kettle, there is no kitchen here. If you want to make a full dinner you have to head over to the Smart Backpackers flagship hostel, about a 10-minute walk down the road.

According to the front desk staff, the hostel (which feels a bit more like a hotel) caters a lot to groups. However, there are no big comfy chairs and only one pay-as-you-go internet terminal; in short, there’s a distinct lack of a homey vibe.

However, the Smart Hyde’s location ideal for spending more of your time out in the city than hanging around the hostel. It’s just a few blocks walk to the Queensway station on the Central line, or Bayswater station on the District or Circle line.
